AutoMax Insurance explained: benefits, limits and the fine print
RHB Insurance's AutoMax bundles comprehensive private car cover with disaster and theft allowances and extended towing. Here is what the insurer publishes, and what to check before buying.
AutoMax is RHB Insurance's comprehensive private car insurance, built with a set of allowances and extended assistance layered on top of standard comprehensive cover. It is sold in two tiers β Lite and Pro β which is worth knowing before you compare a quote against another insurer's single-tier comprehensive product, since not every benefit below applies to both tiers.
What RHB publishes about the plan
According to RHB's own product page and disclosure materials, AutoMax offers:
- Special perils cover against floods, landslides, storms and falling trees, but only on the Pro plan β the Lite plan does not include this extension.
- A natural disaster allowance of RM1,500 and a theft or total-loss allowance of RM1,000, paid on top of the underlying claim settlement.
- Key cover of up to RM1,500 and an accident repair allowance of RM200.
- Extended towing support of up to 600km per round trip.
- Cover for all drivers, rather than being restricted to named drivers only.
RHB's own marketing describes the plan as offering premiums up to 25% lower than some alternative, without stating the base against which that percentage is measured, so treat it as the insurer's own framing rather than a verified comparison against a specific competitor quote. RHB has not published a fixed price for AutoMax on the page we reviewed; the actual premium for your vehicle will depend on your car's value, your No Claim Discount, your chosen plan tier, and the add-ons you select.
What governs if a figure here looks different from what you are quoted
The description above reflects RHB's own published material as captured on the date shown in this article, and figures like the allowance amounts and towing distance can change. If anything in a quote, a renewal notice, or a claim decision appears to differ from what is described here, the product disclosure sheet and the policy wording β both linked in the sources above β are the documents that actually govern your contract, not this article or the marketing page. Read them, particularly the exclusions and any conditions attached to the allowances, before you rely on a specific figure.
What this covers, and what it does not tell you
The published material tells you about the allowances and extras that differentiate AutoMax from a bare-bones comprehensive policy. It does not, on the page we reviewed, publish a price, so you cannot judge the value of these extras against the premium without getting a quote. It also does not spell out every exclusion β those live in the policy wording, not the marketing page.
What to check generally before buying any comprehensive motor policy
Whichever insurer you are considering, including this one, it is worth checking:
- Agreed value or market value. This determines your payout if the car is a total loss, and it is not always obvious from a summary page which basis applies.
- Whether special perils cover is included in your chosen tier, or needs to be added. As above, this only applies to the Pro tier of this particular plan.
- The No Claim Discount structure and what triggers a reset.
- Excess amounts and betterment clauses, which affect how much you actually receive if older parts are replaced with new ones.
- The claims process and panel workshop network, since a wide network and clear digital claims process affect how smoothly a claim actually goes.

Not a recommendation
This article describes what RHB Insurance publishes about AutoMax; it is not a claim that the plan is the cheapest, most comprehensive, or best-suited option for you. The right plan depends on your vehicle, driving profile and what you are prepared to pay for the specific allowances above.
