MaidEase (Prestige Plus) explained: benefits, limits and the fine print
Sompo's top MaidEase tier carries a S$160,000 medical limit and a fidelity guarantee. Here is what Prestige Plus actually covers and what still sits outside it.
MaidEase (Prestige Plus) is Sompo's top-tier domestic helper insurance plan, published at S$993.95 for a 26-month term (for a helper aged 50 or below, GST inclusive) according to Sompo's product page. As the upper tier in the MaidEase range, it is built to exceed the regulatory minimum rather than simply meet it, and the specific numbers are worth setting against both MOM's baseline requirement and your own household's actual risk before deciding whether the higher tier is worth the extra premium.
The medical cover, against the regulatory minimum
Sompo publishes S$160,000 of hospital and surgical expense cover for Prestige Plus. That is well above the compulsory minimum medical insurance requirement for domestic helpers, which the Ministry of Manpower has set at an annual claim limit of at least $60,000 since 1 July 2023, with the first $15,000 paid by the insurer and the remainder split 25% employer / 75% insurer. A plan advertising $160,000 in hospital and surgical cover is pricing for a materially larger claim ceiling than the regulatory floor, which matters most for a genuinely serious hospitalisation rather than routine treatment, where either tier would likely be sufficient.
Personal accident and dread disease cover
The plan carries a S$70,000 personal accident sum insured for the helper, described as worldwide cover, alongside a S$2,500 dread diseases benefit and a S$5,000 fidelity guarantee β the last of these compensating the employer for financial loss caused by the helper's dishonesty, such as theft, up to that limit.
Liability, repatriation and the security bond
Domestic helper liability is set at S$20,000, covering the employer's legal liability if the helper causes injury to a third party or damage to third-party property while carrying out her duties. A S$10,000 repatriation benefit is included, and the policy addresses the S$5,000 security bond employers must place with MOM through a waiver of counter indemnity, which the insurer's own page describes as limiting the employer's liability to S$250 rather than the full bond amount, provided the employer was not the cause of the breach.
The smaller, easily overlooked benefits
An alternative help benefit pays S$20 a day toward the cost of temporary domestic help while the regular helper is hospitalised, and a separate benefit of S$40 a day addresses wages and levy reimbursement during that same period β together intended to offset, rather than fully cover, the cost of managing a household without its helper for an extended stretch. A S$500 benefit is included for termination and re-hiring costs if the contract ends early. Sompo's page also states that COVID-19 is covered at no additional premium, which is worth confirming still applies given how insurer terms on this point have shifted over time.
What this tier adds over a base-level MaidEase plan
Sompo positions Prestige Plus as its top tier, which implies lower MaidEase tiers exist with a smaller medical limit, personal accident sum insured and set of extras β the product page for Prestige Plus does not itself lay out that comparison table, so an employer deciding between tiers should ask Sompo directly for the full tier comparison rather than assuming the gap is small.
What the product documents govern
The figures above come from Sompo's product page as retrieved on 21 August 2026. The MaidEase policy wording and brochure are the documents that set out the actual terms, exclusions and claim conditions, and they are what governs if a benefit description here and the fine print ever disagree. Given how specific several of these limits and daily rates are, checking the policy wording directly β particularly around what counts as a qualifying hospitalisation for the alternative help and wage reimbursement benefits β is worth the time before relying on the headline figures alone.
What to compare it against
A higher medical limit and a fidelity guarantee are the two features that most clearly separate this plan from a basic, minimum-compliant policy. Whether they justify the premium depends on factors like whether your helper has any pre-existing conditions that make a larger hospital bill more plausible, and how much financial exposure you would be comfortable carrying yourself if a lower-tier plan's limits were exceeded.
Talk to an advisor
Maid insurance tiers differ enough in their fine print that comparing headline sums insured alone can be misleading. An advisor can check Prestige Plus against other maid insurance tiers for your specific household. Use the portal's advisor matching to find one, or ask our assistant to line this plan up against others on maid insurance.
