MaidPlus (Premier) explained: benefits, limits and the fine print

MSIG's top MaidPlus tier doubles the medical limit to S$120,000 a year. Here is what the plan covers for both employer and helper, and what to check before buying.

Employing a foreign domestic worker (FDW) in Singapore comes with mandatory insurance obligations toward both the helper's wellbeing and third parties, and MaidPlus is MSIG's product built around meeting those obligations. Premier is the top of MSIG's MaidPlus range, and it's worth understanding both what it adds over lower tiers and what its published price actually buys.

What the plan covers

MSIG describes MaidPlus (Premier) as covering both the employer and the FDW, with a published price of S$728.12 for a 26-month policy term (for a helper aged 50 or below, GST inclusive). Its published benefits are:

  • S$120,000 a year of hospital and surgical expenses for the helper β€” the headline figure that distinguishes Premier from MSIG's other MaidPlus tiers, described as double the medical limit of a lower tier.
  • S$60,000 for accidental death or disability, plus a separate S$3,000 for medical expenses arising from the same accident.
  • S$20,000 of repatriation expenses, covering the cost of sending the helper home if that becomes necessary.
  • S$20,000 of third-party liability, protecting the employer against claims arising from the helper's actions toward third parties.
  • S$750 of replacement maid expenses, toward the cost of engaging a replacement helper if needed.
  • Wages and levy reimbursement of S$30 a day, for up to 60 days, covering ongoing employer costs during a period when the helper cannot work.

Details specific to the policy structure

  • Policy term of 26 months, matching the standard work permit cycle for FDWs rather than a calendar-year term.
  • A S$5,000 security bond, provided as a letter of guarantee to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) β€” this substitutes for the cash security bond employers would otherwise need to place directly with MOM.
  • S$600 for termination and re-hiring costs, a benefit distinct from the replacement maid expense figure above.
  • Optional co-payment reduction, allowing the employer to reduce the standard co-payment to 10% or 0% for an additional premium, and an optional waiver of counter indemnity.

What "Premier" adds over other MaidPlus tiers

MSIG's own description frames Premier explicitly as doubling the medical limit relative to a lower tier, positioning it as the enhanced option within the MaidPlus range rather than the entry-level plan. If your primary concern is the depth of medical cover for your helper β€” particularly relevant if the helper has any health considerations, or if you want a wider buffer against a serious hospitalisation β€” Premier's S$120,000 annual medical limit is the main differentiator to weigh against its higher premium compared with MSIG's other tiers.

What governs if there's a discrepancy

MSIG publishes a brochure, a customer instruction form, and the full MaidPlus policy document separately from the product page. Where the product page's summary figures and the full policy document disagree β€” for instance, on how the co-payment reduction is calculated, or on the exact scope of the third-party liability benefit β€” the policy document is what governs your actual cover, not the summary page.

What a general buyer should check regardless of insurer

Every FDW insurance plan in Singapore has to meet MOM's mandatory minimum requirements for medical insurance and personal accident cover, so the meaningful comparison across insurers is in how far above that minimum a plan goes, and at what price. Worth checking regardless of which insurer you use: whether the medical limit is adequate given your helper's age and any known health conditions, whether the security bond is provided as a letter of guarantee or requires a separate cash deposit, what the actual co-payment structure is before and after any optional reduction, and how wages and levy reimbursement is calculated if your helper is hospitalised for an extended period.

A note on currency

The details above reflect MSIG's product page as retrieved on 21 August 2026, including the published price for a helper aged 50 or below. MOM's minimum insurance requirements and insurers' own product terms are reviewed periodically, so confirm the current requirements and pricing directly with MSIG or MOM before relying on any specific figure here. This article does not suggest that this plan is the best, cheapest, or most suitable option for any particular employer.

Talk to an advisor

Whether Premier's higher medical limit is worth its premium over a lower MaidPlus tier depends on your helper's age, health, and your own risk tolerance as an employer. A licensed advisor can compare this plan against other insurers' current FDW policies and confirm it meets MOM's requirements for your situation.
