Motor Plus explained: benefits, limits and the fine print
MSIG's Motor Plus bundles seven common motor add-ons into one comprehensive package. Here is what the insurer's own page and disclosure sheet say it covers, and what to verify before buying.
Motor Plus is MSIG's comprehensive private car policy, sold with seven add-on benefits already bundled into a single packaged premium rather than sold as separate optional extras. The details below come from MSIG's own published product page and disclosure sheet as at the date shown there, and can change β the product disclosure sheet and policy wording, not this article, govern what an actual claim would pay.
What kind of plan this is
Motor Plus is a comprehensive conventional motor insurance policy for private cars, built around a package of seven pre-bundled add-on benefits rather than a bare comprehensive base plan. MSIG's own published price for the package is not stated on the product page, so the actual premium would need to be quoted for a specific vehicle and driver profile.
Key benefits as published
- Full special perils cover included, rather than sold as a separate optional extra.
- 24-hour unlimited towing service bundled into the base package.
- Driver's personal accident cover included.
- Legal liability to and of passengers included.
- Waiver of compulsory excess bundled in, along with strike, riot and civil commotion cover.
- Medical expenses cover of RM2,000, per MSIG's published details.
- Workshop choice, with a panel of approved workshops, and an option to use franchise repairers or another nearby workshop where no panel workshop is available in the area.
Where the fine print matters
A few areas are worth checking directly against the disclosure sheet and policy wording rather than assuming from the summary:
- Loss of use is not automatically included. Compensation for the time your car is off the road for repairs is not part of the basic Motor Plus package; it requires the separate Endorsement 112 (Compensation for Assessed Repair Time), covering an agreed amount per day for an agreed duration, which is an add-on rather than a standard feature.
- NCD relief is optional, not automatic. No-claim discount relief for the current policy year is available as a separate optional add-on, and windscreen add-on claims specifically are structured so they do not affect your NCD.
- The medical expenses limit is fixed at a stated figure. RM2,000 is what MSIG publishes for this benefit; check whether that is per person, per accident, or on some other basis in the actual policy wording, since the summary page does not spell this out.
- Further optional add-ons exist beyond the seven bundled ones. EZ-Mile pay-as-you-drive cover, windscreen cover, Smart Key Shield, and a waiver of betterment cost are all separately available, each with its own disclosure sheet or leaflet.
What a buyer should check in general, beyond this product
Whichever comprehensive motor policy you are comparing Motor Plus against, a few things are worth confirming rather than assuming two packages are equivalent just because both say "comprehensive":
- Which add-ons are actually bundled versus separately priced, since a packaged premium can look attractive while still excluding cover, such as loss of use, that another insurer bundles in as standard.
- The workshop network and whether your preferred repairer is on the panel, particularly given the option here to use a franchise repairer or nearby workshop when no panel workshop is available.
- How NCD relief and windscreen claims are treated, since these are the claims most drivers actually make in an ordinary year, more than the major accident scenarios the marketing tends to emphasise.
- The full list of exclusions in the policy wording, not just the benefits list on the product page, since exclusions are what actually determine whether a specific claim is paid.
None of this is a judgement on whether Motor Plus is the best or cheapest comprehensive option for your situation β that depends on your vehicle, driving profile and which add-ons you would otherwise buy separately. Talk to an advisor
Figures on an insurer's own product page are a starting point, not the final word β the product disclosure sheet and policy wording govern any actual claim, and both can be updated after this article is written. A licensed advisor can confirm the current terms directly with MSIG before you buy. Find one through our advisor directory, or ask our assistant to compare Motor Plus against another comprehensive quote you have received.
