TripCare 360 Takaful explained: benefits, limits and the fine print
Etiqa's TripCare 360 Takaful is a Shariah-compliant travel certificate with tiered medical limits and an automatic flight delay payout. Here is what the disclosure sheet actually sets out.
TripCare 360 Takaful is Etiqa's Shariah-compliant travel certificate for domestic and international trips departing from Malaysia, sold as both single-trip and annual plans. The figures below reflect Etiqa's own published product page and disclosure sheet as at the date shown there, and can change β the disclosure sheet and certificate wording, not this article, are what actually governs a claim.
What kind of plan this is
TripCare 360 is a travel takaful certificate, structured as the Shariah-compliant equivalent of a conventional travel insurance policy, available in Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers, plus a choice between single-trip and annual cover.
Key benefits as published
- Overseas medical cover tiered by plan, from RM100,000 on Silver up to RM500,000 on Platinum.
- Trip cancellation up to RM50,000 per person on the Platinum tier, provided sign-up happens at least 7 days before departure.
- Automatic payout for flights delayed 2 or more hours, without needing to submit a separate claim for that specific benefit.
- Family cover for 2 adults plus up to 10 children under a single certificate.
- A 25% online discount, as published on Etiqa's own page.
- Baggage cover of RM1,000 to RM5,000 per person, with a separate baggage delay benefit of RM500 to RM1,000 once the delay reaches 6 hours or more.
- Travel delay benefit starting at RM100 for an initial delay of 2 or more hours, then RM250 for every further 6 hours.
- Cashless overseas hospitalisation and a 24/7 assistance hotline included.
Where the fine print matters
A few details are easy to skim past on the summary page but matter directly at claim time:
- The medical, cancellation and baggage limits all scale by tier. The headline figures above are the top end of the range; Silver and Gold sit meaningfully lower, so confirm which tier a specific quote is actually for before assuming the full published range applies.
- Trip cancellation has a sign-up deadline. The RM50,000 Platinum cancellation benefit requires signing up 7 or more days before departure β a late purchase closer to the travel date may not qualify for this benefit at all.
- Adventure activities are covered, but only within stated limits. The certificate lists a specific range of covered activities, from water sports and skiing at approved resorts to underwater diving up to 30 metres with a qualified instructor and mountaineering below 3,000 metres with ropes β activities outside these stated boundaries and depths may fall outside standard cover.
- COVID-19 cover is a separate optional add-on, providing RM5,000 for cancellation or disruption and RM300,000 for overseas medical, rather than being folded into the base certificate.
What a buyer should check in general, beyond this product
- Which plan tier actually matches your destination and trip length, since medical costs vary enormously by country and a Silver-tier limit that looks generous domestically may be inadequate for a country with expensive private healthcare.
- Whether your planned activities fall inside the certificate's adventure activity list, checking depth, altitude and grading limits specifically rather than assuming a general "adventure sports covered" summary applies.
- How the automatic flight delay payout is triggered in practice, including what proof of delay, if any, is still required even though the benefit is described as automatic.
- Whether family cover terms match your actual travelling party, particularly the two-adults, up-to-ten-children structure, if you are travelling with an extended family group.
None of this is a judgement on whether TripCare 360 Takaful is the best or cheapest travel option for your trip. Compare it against other travel plans at compare/my/travel, or check your existing travel cover with our coverage gap check.
Talk to an advisor
Matching the right tier to your destination, and understanding exactly where the adventure activity and cancellation conditions apply, is easier with someone who has read the certificate wording closely. A licensed advisor can confirm the current terms with Etiqa before you travel. Find one through our advisor directory, or ask our assistant to check whether a specific activity you are planning falls within this certificate's cover.
