Z-Driver explained: benefits, limits and the fine print

Zurich's Z-Driver is a comprehensive motor plan with safe-driver discounts and unlimited named drivers. Here is what the product page and disclosure sheet set out.

Z-Driver is Zurich General's comprehensive private car insurance plan, positioned around a set of discounts for lower-risk drivers and a broad allowance for named drivers, on top of the standard comprehensive cover structure. As with any motor policy, what is written on the product page is a summary; the disclosure sheet and policy wording are what actually govern a claim.

What the plan covers

Zurich's product page describes Z-Driver as comprehensive cover, meaning it protects against third-party liability as well as damage to your own vehicle from accident, fire and theft. Around that base, the page highlights a set of named benefits:

  • Up to a 10% premium discount for drivers considered lower risk, with the page citing examples such as a cautious driving profile, a lady driver, or driving an SUV
  • Voluntary excess discounts of up to 20%, where choosing a higher self-paid excess lowers the premium
  • Unlimited complimentary named drivers for private use, meaning multiple household members can be added to the policy without an extra named-driver charge
  • Optional personal accident cover of up to RM175,000 per car, available from RM15 a year
  • Optional water damage cover available from RM10 a year

Cover details worth checking against your own situation

  • Roadside assistance. A 24-hour hotline is provided, with towing available through the same service.
  • Medical expenses. The base plan provides RM3,000 per person for medical expenses arising from a covered incident.
  • Excess. A compulsory excess of RM400 applies if the driver is under 21, holds a P-licence, or is not a named driver on the policy, on top of any voluntary excess chosen.
  • Flood and special perils. This is an optional add-on, available at a stated 60% discount off the standard tariff rate, and includes towing and clean-up cover for water damage up to RM5,000.
  • Loss of use. Available under Endorsement 112, which compensates for assessed repair time rather than paying out automatically for every claim.
  • Other extras. A waiver of betterment, enhanced windscreen cover, and an "EV Protect" add-on covering a wall charger, charging cable and EV battery are all listed as available extensions for electric vehicle owners specifically.

What governs if a figure here looks different from what you are quoted

Zurich publishes a full Product Disclosure Sheet for Z-Driver in both English and Bahasa Malaysia, along with separate policy wording documents. Where a figure on the marketing page or in this article differs from what appears in those documents, the disclosure sheet and policy wording are what actually apply to your cover and any claim you make. The figures summarised here reflect Zurich's published material as retrieved on 20 August 2026, and should be checked against the insurer's current documents before you rely on them, since discount structures, excess amounts and add-on pricing are reviewed by insurers from time to time.

What to check regardless of which insurer you choose

The specific discounts on this plan, safe-driver, voluntary excess and named-driver allowances, are a useful reminder of what to compare across any motor quote, not just this one:

  1. Which discounts are you actually eligible for, and are they applied automatically or do they need to be requested?
  2. What excess applies in your specific circumstances (age, licence type, named driver status), not just the headline compulsory excess?
  3. Is flood and special perils cover included, or does it need to be added, and at what discount or loading?
  4. How is loss of use or compensation for repair time actually calculated, since "available" and "automatic" are not the same thing?

Nothing in this article should be read as a claim that Z-Driver is the cheapest or best motor plan for any particular driver; the right choice depends on your vehicle, driving profile and which of these features you actually value.
