Mega PA Essential explained: benefits, limits and the fine print

Etiqa's four-tier family accident plan covers adults and children on one policy, from RM100,000 to RM1,000,000 per adult. Here is what the Essential tier actually pays.

Mega PA Essential is Etiqa's entry point into its family personal accident range, structured as a single policy that covers both adults and their children rather than requiring separate individual policies for each family member. It sits alongside three companion plans, Mega PA Crime Cover, Mega PA Hospital Care and Mega PA Prime Shield, each sold with its own product disclosure sheet, so it is worth being clear on what Essential specifically covers versus what sits in those other plans.

What the plan covers

Mega PA Essential is sold across four tiers, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, with the sum covered rising at each level:

  • Accidental death, covered per adult at RM100,000 (Silver), RM300,000 (Gold), RM500,000 (Platinum), or RM1,000,000 (Diamond), according to Etiqa's published material.
  • Children on the same policy, covered at RM25,000 under the Silver tier, or RM50,000 under Gold, Platinum and Diamond.
  • Permanent disability, covered up to the same amount as the death benefit, for both the adult and the child covered.
  • 24-hour emergency assistance, including roadside assistance, evacuation assistance and emergency message transmission.
  • A free courtesy car for 14 days while your own vehicle is being repaired, with pick-up in the Klang Valley according to the insurer's page.

What it does not cover, at least not under this specific plan

Etiqa's own product disclosure sheet for the Essential tier does not state figures for accidental medical expenses or daily hospital income; those benefits sit under the separate Mega PA Hospital Care plan, which is sold and disclosed independently. If medical expense reimbursement or a daily hospital cash benefit matters to you, check whether you need to add Hospital Care alongside Essential, rather than assuming Essential alone provides them. Similarly, cover related to crime is addressed by the separate Mega PA Crime Cover plan, not by Essential.

The published material available for this article does not state the entry age, accepted occupations, or geographic scope of cover for the Essential tier; these details, along with the plan's exclusions, are set out in the product disclosure sheet and policy wording rather than the marketing page, and should be confirmed directly before buying.

What buyers should generally check on any personal accident plan

Beyond the specifics of this plan, a personal accident policy is generally built around a defined scale of benefits for accidental death, permanent disability of varying degrees, and sometimes medical expense reimbursement or hospital income, all triggered specifically by accidental injury rather than illness. It is worth checking, on any PA plan you are considering:

  • Whether cover is for accident only, or accident and illness. Personal accident products are, by definition, triggered by violent, accidental, external and visible events, not by illness, which is a separate category of cover entirely.
  • What counts as permanent disability, and at what percentage the sum covered is paid for a partial versus total disability.
  • Whether occupation affects acceptance or pricing. Hazardous occupations are commonly excluded or subject to loading under personal accident products generally.
  • Whether the plan can be bundled with, or needs to be bundled with, companion plans for medical expenses or hospital income, as is the case here with Etiqa's Hospital Care variant.

Documents that govern

The figures in this article are drawn from Etiqa's own published product page and the terms it states are covered in the Essential product disclosure sheet, current as at the time this article was researched. Insurance product terms, limits and pricing can change, and the product disclosure sheet and policy wording, not this article or the marketing page, are the documents that actually govern a claim. Before buying, ask for the current product disclosure sheet and read the exclusions in full, since a marketing summary, including this one, necessarily leaves some detail out.

This article does not suggest that Mega PA Essential is the best, cheapest or most suitable personal accident plan for any particular buyer; whether it fits your situation depends on your existing cover, your family's needs and how it compares with other plans on the market. Our plan comparison for Malaysia can help you look at personal accident plans side by side, and our coverage gap check can help identify whether accident cover is a gap in your current protection.
