Mega PA Takaful explained: benefits, limits and the fine print
Etiqa's Mega PA Takaful comes in four variants, from an essential accident plan to one adding hospital cash and crime cover. Here is what each version actually includes.
Mega PA Takaful is Etiqa's family personal accident takaful, sold not as one product but as four separate variants under the same name: Essential, Crime Cover, Hospital Care, and Prime Shield. Rather than one plan with optional add-ons, each variant is its own certificate with its own disclosure sheet, so the practical starting point is understanding which of the four you are actually looking at.
What the plan is, in general
Mega PA Takaful is a family personal accident takaful certificate, meaning it is a Shariah-compliant accident protection plan that can cover the participant and family members together on one certificate, rather than requiring separate policies for each person. It is underwritten by Etiqa General Takaful Berhad. Adults can be covered from age 18, and children from as young as 45 days, which makes it a plan that can realistically cover an entire household on one certificate.
The four variants and what separates them
According to Etiqa's published material, the four variants sit on a ladder of increasing benefits:
- Essential provides the core structure: accidental death, disability and medical expense benefits, without the additional features found on the higher variants.
- Crime Cover takes the Essential structure and adds protection for loss or injury caused specifically by crime, which the base Essential variant does not include.
- Hospital Care and Prime Shield sit above these, and are the variants that add a daily hospital income benefit; the base Essential and Crime Cover variants do not include a daily hospital cash allowance at all.
Because these are structured as genuinely separate products rather than tiers of one plan with a shared benefit table, the specific figures below vary noticeably by variant and, within Hospital Care and Prime Shield, by the specific plan level chosen (for example, the difference between a lower and a higher plan tier such as Platinum or Diamond).
Benefits, in the ranges Etiqa has published
- Accidental death and permanent disability, for adults: ranges from RM100,000 up to RM1,000,000 depending on the variant and plan level chosen. For children, the range runs from RM25,000 to RM50,000.
- Accidental medical expenses, for adults: from RM500 to RM5,000 for in-hospital expenses, and RM300 to RM2,000 for outpatient expenses, depending on the plan. For children, the corresponding ranges are RM150 to RM1,500 for in-hospital expenses and RM100 to RM600 for outpatient expenses.
- Daily hospital income: not offered on the Essential or Crime Cover variants. On the Hospital Care and Prime Shield variants, a hospital cash allowance of RM150 to RM250 per day is available on the higher plan tiers (described by Etiqa as the Platinum and Diamond levels within those variants).
Because Etiqa presents these as ranges across several plan tiers within each variant rather than one fixed benefit table, the specific amount that applies to any individual buyer depends on exactly which variant and tier is selected at application, and that detail sits in the relevant product disclosure sheet rather than in a single headline figure.
Who the plan is designed to exclude
Mega PA Takaful is built around everyday accidental risk rather than hazardous occupations. Etiqa's published eligibility terms exclude military service, civil defence, law enforcement, fire-fighting, security services, air, ship and oil-rig crew, divers, fishermen, mining and logging work, and other hazardous occupations from standard cover, while sedentary or desk-bound work is specifically permitted, including off-duty cover. If your own or a family member's occupation falls into one of the excluded categories, this particular product is unlikely to be the right fit regardless of which variant you are considering.
Cover generally runs to the plan anniversary before the insured adult's 65th birthday, and for children, to the anniversary before their 17th birthday, or their 23rd birthday if they remain in full-time study. Each variant's certificate wording sets out these age limits precisely, and they should be confirmed against your own or your dependants' ages before applying.
What a buyer should check regardless of product
Anyone comparing personal accident products should check: whether the plan responds only to accidental, external events, since PA cover as a category does not respond to illness unless a specific rider is added; what evidence the disability benefits require; whether occupation or hobby exclusions apply to anyone covered; and whether daily hospital income, where offered, has a maximum number of payable days. Being accident-only cover, this product works best alongside, not instead of, medical and health cover for illness-related hospital admissions.
Where the details that govern actually sit
Etiqa's product page gives the general shape of Mega PA Takaful, but each variant's product disclosure sheet and certificate wording are the documents that set out the exact terms. These figures reflect Etiqa's published material as compiled for this product; where a figure here and a figure in the current disclosure sheet or certificate wording disagree, the disclosure sheet and certificate wording govern, and both can change, so confirm current terms and pricing directly with Etiqa before buying.
Talk to an advisor
Because Mega PA Takaful is really four different products under one name, choosing the right variant and tier depends on which benefits matter most to your household and whether anyone covered falls into an excluded occupation category.
